The nihilanth will teleport you up to four times, recycling a room on the fourth attempt. The energy balls are best dogged using the long jump. I'd recommend using the tau cannon or revolver for this. When it does this, use one of the jump pads to get above it, and fire into it's exposed brain. Once the nihlanth has taken enough damage, it's head will sort of open up, and it will resort to a single energy ball attack.
The crystals replenish those orbs, but once the crystals are gone, you can kind of use the orbs as a health indicator of sorts, although you'll need to keep attacking. As you attack the nihilanth, the orbs are sort of absorbed as a means of healing itself. There are orange orbs that orbit the nihilanth. I have destroyed the crystals (i'm pretty sure it can't open its head with the crytals intact), but it does not seem to take any damage. The energy ball attack often kills me instantly, so I try to dodge it when I can, but if the Nihilanth tries to use the attack in the air, I have no way of dodging it. As far as I know, it has 2 attacks, one teleports you, one fires energy balls at you. For multiple days now, I have been on Nihilanth trying over and over again to complete it to no avail. I am on the brink of enabling god mode just so I can beat the game.
